Our History | Auto Haus Yorktown & Williamsburg

AUTO HAUS • ESTABLISHED 1992

Built on Expertise.Driven by Relationships.

From a two-person European repair shop in Yorktown to a multi-location automotive business serving Eastern Virginia, Auto Haus has spent more than three decades growing around one idea: take care of the vehicle, and take care of the person behind the wheel.

THE AUTO HAUS STORY

A lot has changed. The standard has not.

Auto Haus began as a small independent German automotive repair shop. Over the years, customer demand and a commitment to doing things the right way led us into vehicle sales, expanded service operations, collision repair, a second dealership, dedicated truck sales and service, and enthusiast-vehicle auction support.

MORE THAN THREE DECADES

From four lifts to a full automotive operation.

The milestones below trace Auto Haus from its earliest Yorktown years through the business our customers know today.

1992–1993

The Journey Begins

Auto Haus opened in Yorktown as a small German automotive repair shop specializing in Mercedes-Benz. Founder Hans Hohlrieder and technician Garry Stace made up the original two-person team. The first 101 Greene Drive shop was approximately 3,200 square feet with four vehicle lifts.

From Service to Sales

As the service business grew, customers began asking Auto Haus to help them find quality pre-owned German vehicles. In 1995, Auto Haus became a licensed Virginia motor vehicle dealer, adding vehicle sales to its expanding service business.

Here We Grow Again

In January 2000, Auto Haus moved into a new 11,000-square-foot Yorktown facility with a showroom, service-writer area, offices and a much larger workshop. By this time, the business had grown well beyond its original two-person team.

2006–2008

More Space. More Capability.

Auto Haus expanded its expertise beyond Mercedes-Benz into brands including BMW, Volkswagen, Audi and Porsche. A new 18,000-square-foot facility at 100 Greene Drive opened in 2007, while the company also expanded into professional paint and collision repair.

Auto Haus of Williamsburg

In late 2014, Auto Haus acquired a former full-service dealership at 212 Second Street in Williamsburg. After an extensive renovation, Auto Haus of Williamsburg opened with sales, service, detailing and additional space for specialty and enthusiast vehicles.
